The work F-Gerät addresses an object of fear in public space: the fire extinguisher. It is present in many ways in our everyday lives, but often we do not focus on it and it blurs with our environment. At the crucial moment of a fire, however, it comes completely into focus and suddenly becomes essential for its surroundings and the lives of individuals.
The material glass plays a dual role here: on the one hand, it illustrates the invisibility of the object in our everyday perception and, on the other, the fire extinguisher itself can become useless, as the heat of a fire would melt the glass. Conversely, if the fire is hot enough, the fire extinguisher itself can crystallize in its usual materiality and become transparent as glass particles form.
